31 January 2010 – College Station, Texas, USA – Ashton Eaton of the University of Oregon set an American collegiate record of 6256 points winning the heptathlon at a meeting at Texas A&M Challenge. He broke the 6204pt mark set in 2006 by Trey Hardee, the reigning World champion in the Decathlon

Mikhnevich reaches 21.30m, Rybakov over 2.32 at Belarus Cup

 

31 January 2010 – Mogilev, Belarus – There was a fine display of shot putting at at the Belarus National Indoor Cup in Mogilev on Saturday (30). Andrei Mikhnevich, the 2008 Olympic Bronze medallist and former World champion reached 21.30m while Pavel Lyzhyn, who finished sixth at the World Championships in Berlin last summer, improved his lifetime best to 21.12m.

Flames halt 9-game skid, Oilers’ at 13 (AP)

 

Jarome Iginla and the Calgary Flames took full advantage of a timely game against the free-falling Edmonton Oilers. Iginla had two goals and two assists to help Calgary beat Edmonton 6-1 on Saturday night to end the Flames' losing streak at nine and extend the Oilers' skid to 13 games — one off the franchise record.
